In the small town of Saint-Règle lies the secluded Château des Arpentis, a moated 17th-century mansion that was renovated in 2007 to serve as a hotel. Though less than a ten-minute drive from the heart of medieval Amboise, the estate has the tranquility of a sophisticated country retreat.
Inside, an air of intimacy lingers from its days as a private home with each of the classically French rooms named after relatives and friends of the Arpentis family. The sense of staying in an elegant private home rather than a hotel is reinforced by the presence of a communal kitchen and honesty bar. Outside, there's a large pool that is accessed through the chateau’s wine cellar.
Stately yet informal, the Château des Arpentis is set in an expansive park with mature trees and an inviting pool. A stay resembles visiting a private home with guests offered a high degree of independence.

Rooms
Rooms are individually decorated and named after members of the Arpentis family and their friends. Though each is unique in decoration, certain themes and styles prevail throughout. All rooms are decorated in a classically French style, many with four-poster beds, wood-beamed ceilings, terracotta floors, and walls covered in traditional toile du jouy fabric rather than wallpaper. Bathrooms vary depending on the room type and have either a bath, or bath and shower. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available (if a little unreliable on occasion), and rooms have air conditioning.Â
Location
The hotel is tucked away in a dense forest yet is easily accessible from the medieval town of Amboise where you'll find plenty of options for shopping and dining. It is also conveniently located for visits to some of the Loire Valley’s most well-known chateaux, among them Cheverny, Chambord and Chenonceau, as well as Da Vinci’s home at Clos Lucé.
Food and drink
Château des Arpentis does not have a restaurant, although there is a communal kitchen and honesty bar. Nearby Amboise is easily accessible by taxi, which the hotel concierge will be happy to arrange for you. Breakfast is offered each morning in a large room featuring interesting prints of local chateaux or trees, or, in nicer weather, on the outdoor terrace.
Facilities and activities
The ground floor of the hotel features an intimate 19th-century salon with a large fireplace, above which the Arpentis family crest can be seen. The salon is an excellent space to enjoy a pre-dinner apéritif or play a game of billiards. There is also a large outdoor pool, accessible through the chateau’s wine cellar.
