Responsible Choice
A nature lover's paradise, this family-owned property is run and owned by birding enthusiast and conservationist Ram Pratap Singh, and his wife Anu. The lodge is now set within a sprawling heritage plantation which was once a barren piece of land that was reclaimed into a healthy and thriving ecosystem over 23 years. Traditionally used as the family's base for their annual Cattle Fair (established in 1910), this property has been restored after decades of neglect, and is a warm, friendly place to stay.
The property offers rooms and cottages with repurposed antique furniture pieces, all with either a sit-out or veranda which overlooks the fields or woodland. The main house has a cozy sitting room, a library and a bar, providing a comfortable home-away-from-home. Mela Kothi - Chambal Safari Lodge team takes pride in providing personal attention to all their guests, allowing you to explore at your own pace.
While staying here, you can do as much or as little as you like. You could take a relaxing cruise on the nearby river, explore Shiva temples, or go for a walk through the family's ancestral village and farm.
Apart from being a part of several conservation and environment management projects they are one of first few lodges that is 100% rainwater harvested, carbon neutral and operates entirely on solar energy. They have a rigorous waste management process in place and use environmentally friendly toiletries, cleaners, have a No single use plastic policy to the extent that they have plastic free corn starch-based bin liners in rooms, and kitchen.
The Singhs' own foundation has funded over 20,000 children from Agra and rural schools near the sanctuary to participate in environment awareness events, including talks, essays, and quiz competitions, as well as visits to protected areas near Agra, including the National Chambal Sanctuary.
