Alex preparing for a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon, the USA

Alex

USA Specialist

Growing up in Africa, Alex caught the travel bug early. As soon as he finished university, he travelled the world for the next two years, before settling down in the UK at a ski-specialist tour operator. While working there for seven years, he travelled to the USA numerous times and has skied all the major ski resorts in North America.

Taking his extensive USA knowledge, he started at Audley in 2015. During his time at Audley, he has explored more of the USA including South Dakota, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Zion, Bryce, Moab, the Grand Canyon, Hawaii, northern California, and the Pacific Northwest. He has also returned to some of his favourite areas of the country: the mountains of Colorado, Montana and Wyoming, and the Californian regions of Santa Monica, Yosemite, the beautiful Big Sur coastline and San Francisco.

Bison in Grand Teton National Park

I recommend visiting - Grand Teton National Park, USA

With so many amazing destinations all over the USA it's really hard to choose just one. I have to say that Jackson in Wyoming is always going to be a place that I can keep on returning to however. Located between the Teton Mountains and Teton National Park, the scenery is truly breath-taking.

Jackson itself is a fun, arty mountain town with the friendliest locals I have ever met. Throw in the fact that it is only two hours from Yellowstone and you can see why I love it so much.

The Lost Whale

I recommend staying at - The Lost Whale, California

Simple

The Lost Whale is a lovely B&B with an amazing setting on a cliff above the Pacific in northern California. It has really friendly owners, comfortable rooms, and a delicious breakfast. It’s located just south of Redwoods National Park, a stunning park to visit on day trips out.

I'll never forget when…

Taking a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon will be something that I remember for the rest of my life. I was fortunate enough to be given the 'co-pilot' seat up front, from where I had the best view of some of the most amazing scenery in the world.

The sheer scale of the canyon is hard to describe, flying over it in a helicopter really is the best way to see it all. The feeling I had when the ground below me dropped by a mile in a second as we flew out over the canyon for the first time, with views of the canyon walls all around me is something that I will remember forever.
