Spend the day island-hopping between sandy coves and untouched islets on this group catamaran trip. You’ll explore the cluster of granite islands that dot the ocean to the east of Praslin, stopping to snorkel, swim and stroll along boulder-strewn beaches.
You’ll board the vessel from a jetty in Praslin and set off toward the Soeurs, a pair of volcanic sister islands. The skipper will slow as you pass the inhabited island of La Digue, where you might be able to see a village bell tower or two poking up along the coastline. On reaching Grande Soeur (Big Sister) Island, you’ll be transferred to the shore by dingy (to protect the shallow-lying coral).
Your guide will give you a short tour of the island, showing you remnants of the 20th-century coconut plantation and the best snorkelling spots. The island’s hourglass shape means that, at its waist, you can walk between the west and east coast beaches in a few minutes. The east coast’s steeply shelving beach is best for swimming, while snorkellers will find the island’s reef along the west coast.
After some free time to explore Grande Soeur, step back on board for a freshly barbecued lunch. It’s then time to set sail south to Félicité and Coco Island. Depending on the weather conditions, you might visit Coco Island, a small granite outcrop topped with nothing but a few palm trees, or the larger Félicité.
Both islands are surrounded by shallow reefs where large schools of neon surgeonfish and puffer fish are often spotted. Turtles come to graze the seagrass and at the reef’s edge, you might see a roaming reef shark. Spend the afternoon snorkelling, swimming or investigating the boulder-strewn beaches before sailing back to Praslin.
