My travel journey started when I decided to move to New Zealand to play a season of rugby so I could improve my skills in the game as rapidly as possible. I fell in love with the country immediately. I knew it would not be my last time there.

Years later I moved to the UK for yet another rugby experience. While in Europe, I had the advantage of being within reach of several different countries. It was there I honed my skill of researching my travels. Any long weekend would be spent exploring a new destination in Europe.

My love of travel has only increased since then. New Zealand is a country with something for everyone. I am thrilled to be a New Zealand Country Specialist so I can share my passion for New Zealand with others.

Q&A with Greg

Great Wall, Beijing

What鈥檚 your most vivid travel moment?

I was doing a trip through China and the Great Wall was a destination that interested me. I was on my own but had started chatting with a gentleman on the same tour. After talking for a while we decided we should walk the Wall together. His name was Hon, and he was from Malaysia but was living in Australia. It was delightful listening to all the amazing travel experiences he had and sharing my experiences with him. The Great Wall is still one of the most amazing things I鈥檝e ever seen.

Machu Picchu, Peru

Where would you love to travel next?

Peru has been at the top of my travel list for a while. Taking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, the Rainbow Mountains, and the Sacred Valley rank among some of the things to see. It has also become a top culinary destination.

Your best piece of travel advice?

My best travel advice would be to chat with the locals. Internet searches don鈥檛 always tell the whole story. Sometimes the mom-and-pop restaurant off the beaten path is where you may have a more memorable experience as opposed to a highly rated restaurant. Have a cup of coffee with your B&B hosts and pick their brains about good hiking trails. Chat with the local bartender to see what local dish the region is known for, and where to get it. Sometimes the people you meet end up being a highlight of the trip.
