Vienna market visit & cooking class

Experience Viennese cuisine hands-on in this morning market visit and cooking class, which combines a gourmet walking tour with an intimate culinary workshop. Start with a stroll through Vienna’s food specialties, tasting along the way. Afterward, you and your guide will prepare and enjoy a two-course lunch with Austrian wines.

You’ll spend the first hour or so wending through the city’s gourmet shops, tasting bread and chocolate from local purveyors. Then it’s off to a local market to sample the day’s produce, cheeses and other regional ingredients.

A quick drive will take you to your guide’s apartment, which is furnished with a high-end chef’s kitchen. There, you’ll learn how to make a meal of local delicacies and enjoy it with the wines of the region.

This exclusive experience will immerse you in the day-to-day life of food and wine in Vienna, while giving you a taste of the best the city has to offer.

In the morning, your guide will meet you at your hotel and you’ll head out on foot to the brightly tented farmers’ markets that are the lifeblood of the city. In a short walking tour, you’ll view the range of foods and ingredients available, from traditional schnitzel and apple strudel to Turkish hummus and Persian caviar.

The markets teem with tasting opportunities, and you might sample Vienna’s breads, cheeses, chocolates, and local produce. Depending on the time of year, you may find delicate chanterelle mushrooms, roasted chestnuts or green and spicy ramps. Your guide will direct you to the highlights, and might secure some ingredients for your cooking project along the way.

After your tasting stroll, your private culinary adventure awaits. A driver will bring you to your guide’s Vienna apartment, where you’ll help prepare a two-course meal in your chef-guide’s own kitchen. Seasoned chefs and novice cooks alike will enjoy the chance to work in the spacious and well-appointed kitchen and handle the high-end cooking equipment. Enjoy crisp Austrian white wines while you work, and learn the ingredients and techniques for preparing a gourmet lunch in traditional Viennese style.

When you’re done, you’ll know how to prepare a few dishes, but more importantly, you’ll have a chance to eat the fruits of your efforts during a leisurely lunch, paired with wines or other beverages typical of Austria’s terroir.

This hyper-local shopping, cooking and dining experience is exclusive to Audley.
