Situated on a low sand island in a private concession of the Okavango Delta, this simple tented camp has a traditional African feel. Set beneath two mature fig trees, the open-sided main building is constructed of wood with a high thatched roof; woven rugs cover the floorboards, lanterns hang overhead, and there鈥檚 a communal dining table where meals are shared. Outside is a boma area which looks out over a seasonal lagoon often visited by hippo and elephant. In the distance are green floodplains dotted with lechwe and impala, and there鈥檚 a small pool to the rear of the building.聽
The nine en suite tents are spaced apart for privacy and set on raised decking facing the lagoon. They have large open-air showers and are shaded by trees where vervet monkeys can often be seen climbing among the branches. A family tent with separate extension wing is able to accommodate a family of four.
As the camp is situated on a private concession, game vehicles can go off-road, giving you a better chance of seeing animals such as lion and cheetah. Bush walks are sometimes available if requested in advance. And, with permanent water always within reach, mokoro trips take place in all seasons.
Understated and authentic in style, we like this camp for its simplicity and its peaceful location beside a seasonal lagoon, as well as the mokoro trips that are offered year-round.

Rooms
The camp's Meru-style canvas tents are set on raised decks and overlook the seasonal lagoon. They each offer an outdoor decking area with seating shaded by trees, a separate lounge area with armchairs, twin beds, a private outdoor shower and en suite bathroom. Simple in style, they have large netted windows with curtains, cream wooden floors, a standing lamp and bedside lanterns, as well as wooden chests for storing your luggage. While charging points aren’t provided in your room, you’ll find some in the main communal building.
Location
The camp is set on Pom Pom Island in the private Matsebe Nxabega Concession, just west of Moremi Game Reserve. While the lagoon in front of camp varies in terms of water levels, the camp鈥檚 location within the Xudum river system means water is never far away. You can access the camp via the Pom Pom airstrip, which is just a short game drive away.
Food and drink
The main communal building has an honesty bar where you can help yourself to drinks throughout the day. Meals are served around the long communal dining table, which creates a sociable atmosphere as you discuss your safari experiences with fellow guests. You might dine on barbecued meats such as kudu or beef alongside seasonal vegetables and a glass of wine. High tea is served before your afternoon game drive, including homemade lemonade, iced tea and pastries.
Families
There鈥檚 an en suite family tent set close to the main communal area, which has an additional extension wing enabling it to accommodate two adults and two children aged eight years or older.
Facilities and activities
Game drives around the concession are offered twice a day, giving you a chance of seeing big game including elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah and giraffe. You can also choose to take a mokoro trip along the nearby water channels, soaking up the sounds of the bush as you look out for pied kingfishers, African jacanas, hippo and crocodiles. Walking safaris are subject to availability of a qualified guide and need to be arranged in advance. Back at camp, there鈥檚 a small pool and a curio shop.
