Porto Bay Rio Internacional

PortoBay Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Contemporary in style, the PortoBay Rio de Janeiro is a light and airy place to stay.

As with most hotels in Rio, this is a tower-block building, with rooms spread over a number of levels and a great rooftop pool and bar area affording views across the city and Copacabana Beach.

Service is very friendly, and given the property's central location, the hotel lends itself well to exploring the city independently.

OUR OPINION:

One of our first-choice hotels in Rio, the PortoBay Rio de Janeiro is comfortable, superbly located in a lively area of Copacabana, and right on the beachfront.

Rooms

The hotel's en suite rooms are modern in design, and many have a small balcony with table and chairs, allowing you to sit out and take in the views. All rooms have free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, cable TV, a telephone, hair dryer, minibar, and safe. The entry-level superior rooms are situated on the side of the hotel with a view over the city, and a partial view of the beach and the ocean. Deluxe sea view rooms face straight out toward Copacabana Beach, offering far-reaching views, while the top category oceanfront suites are larger, with a small separate seating area and views out over the beach.

Location

The PortoBay Rio de Janeiro enjoys a prime location overlooking perhaps the most celebrated beach in the world, Copacabana. The Copacabana district itself is one of the throbbing hearts of Rio, full of bars and restaurants should you wish to eat out. Should you wish to venture further afield, the hotel is located close to metro stations, allowing you to head into the downtown area easily or to travel in the opposite direction to the chic districts of Ipanema and Leblon, which are home to even more restaurants and bars. Here, the atmosphere is a little more low key than Copacabana.

Food and drink

You can enjoy a hearty Brazilian breakfast, including a variety of fresh fruit and juices, in the hotel's La Finestra restaurant. Lunch and dinner is also served here, and the restaurant has sweeping views over the beach. The food consists mainly of Brazilian fare, including delicious steaks. The hotel also serves light lunches and drinks by the rooftop pool at the Bossa Lounge, while the Limone Bar offers a range of drinks and cocktails, including very good caipirinhas.

Families

We think that the rooftop pool is a great place to spend downtime with the family.

Facilities and activities

The rooftop terrace offers panoramic views of the bay and is home to a small pool and relaxation area as well as a gym and a bar serving light meals, juices and alcoholic drinks. The property also has a beach cabin across the road, where you can enjoy snacks or a refreshing coconut juice, and provides a beach service during the summer months with loungers, towels and parasols for guests. The English-speaking staff members are helpful and friendly.
