Responsible Choice
Klahoose Wilderness Resort brings you to the heart of this magical coastline and you are assured of a warm and friendly welcome. Here, British Columbia's scenery, wildlife and a relaxed pace of life all come together in a peaceful wilderness setting. The lodge is fully indigenous owned and is located on the water's edge of ‘Thee chum mi yich’ (Homfray Channel) on Desolation Sound's calm waters.
The small group of rooms and cabins provide a sense of intimacy and privacy at the lodge, with a more personal touch to the activities available. The three and four-night packages are an escape into nature and the Klahoose culture with plenty of marine tours, grizzly bear watching, water sports and Indigenous activities, all accompanied by delicious local food.
This resort is a welcoming stop with excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, indigenous engagement and sustainability credentials that will suit anyone looking to escape into nature and learn more about First Nations culture.

Rooms
Rooms at the lodge are simple — ranging from cosy lodge rooms to one and two bedroom cabins. Each of the rooms and cabins are different but the common style with indigenous art, wood floors and panelling, large windows, and comfortable furnishings runs throughout the property. Many rooms have a private balcony and all overlook the Sound. All rooms come with a Nespresso machine, kettle and tea, reusable water bottle, natural and indigenous made bathroom products, and complimentary Wi-Fi in the main lodge.
Location
The resort is perched on the waterfront of Desolation Sound in the temperate rainforest and is only accessible by water or air. Just north of the Sunshine Coast and on the southern edge of the Great Bear Rainforest, the lodge enjoys an excellent spot for grizzly bear and marine wildlife viewing in both Desolation Sound and Toba Inlet. Given the location of the resort, the surrounding waters are calm and some of the warmest in the area. Complimentary 60-minute boat transfers from Lund are included in the packages.
Food and drink
All meals and soft drinks are included in your stay, in addition to complimentary wine and beer with dinner. Guests dine together at mealtimes in the main cabin overlooking Desolation Sound. The chef uses the freshest local ingredients and organic food when available, and the menu is designed to highlight local tastes while reflecting the culture and soul of the coast.
Facilities and activities
The resort follows two seasons — spring bears and grizzly bears. In spring, tours are by boat through Toba Inlet to see the both black and grizzly bears on the shores where they feed on the grasses and crabs. Guests also witness the return of humpback whales and the other plentiful marine life. From late August to mid-October, the tours run by boat and then bus to viewing platforms to watch the grizzly bears as the catch salmon flying through the air. One day will be dedicated to Indigenous culture and will feature a visit to a traditional site with storytelling.
The Great Room in the main lodge features large cedar beams and a wood burning fireplace, and can be transformed for yoga sessions. Guests are also invited to take one of the nature and hiking trails surrounding the resort, and to use the lodge's kayaks and stand up paddles boards that are moored on its expansive dock. While down at the dock, you can relax in the wood-fired sauna made from cedar milled on-site. Other optional tours include a variety of helicopter adventures and fishing charters.
Environmental and social responsibility
Klahoose Wilderness Resort has gone to great lengths to protect both the local community and environment. They have been awarded a silver certification from GreenStep Sustainable Tourism, use their own micro-power system, are aiming to be plastic free and have developed and improved their water intake and hydroelectric grid to remove up to 38 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Their conservation fee included in packages goes back to First Nation conservation and two wildlife stewardship associations.
Alternative places to stay nearby
Where possible, we like to offer a range of accommodation for each stop of your trip, chosen by our specialists as some of their favourite places to stay. To help you make the right choice, we give each property a rating based on its facilities and service, but we also look for hotels with distinct character or a location that can't be bettered.
