Patio del Mundo

²Ñ±ð»å±ð±ô±ôí²Ô, Colombia

Patio del Mundo occupies a coveted spot in the middle of ²Ñ±ð»å±ð±ô±ôí²Ô’s Poblado district, but as soon as you step over the threshold the city’s busyness seems to fall away. This is thanks to the property’s garden, a secluded green space planted with frothy greenery and tropical plants, including birds of paradise, orchids, mango trees, and pineapple bushes. It’s one of the real pleasures of staying here: breakfast is served on the garden’s terrace, while a short stone path snakes off into the trees and leads to a deck, where you’ll find loungers and a Jacuzzi.

The seven rooms are decorated individually according to different country themes. The India Room, for instance, makes use of Indian textiles gathered by owner Agnes from her travels. Some rooms come with their own patio and Jacuzzi. The decor throughout the property, including the common areas (where you’ll find a small sitting-room-come-library) makes use of Colombian prints, hues and pottery.

There’s no restaurant, but the hotel will cook meals for you on request or recommend where’s good to eat nearby.

OUR OPINION:

We rate Patio del Mundo as one of the best places to stay in ²Ñ±ð»å±ð±ô±ôí²Ô due to its stylish rooms and restful garden — sitting in it, it’s easy to forget you’re in the middle of a city.

Rooms

The property’s seven rooms vary slightly in size and facilities: one has a private patio, some have private patios with hammocks, and some private patios with a Jacuzzi. They’re all designed in the palette of a certain country or region, and each room follows a different theme. In the Out of Africa Room you’ll find African-style prints and patterns, while the Provence Room is accented with lavender shades. Every room has a fairly spacious en suite bathroom with double sinks and a walk-in shower, and a minibar, a TV and free Wi-Fi.

Location

Snug in the leafy Poblado district, the hotel is located up a steep hill within walking distance of restaurants, bars, museums, shops, and parks. Taxis to other areas of ²Ñ±ð»å±ð±ô±ôí²Ô are relatively inexpensive. A small creek runs near the property, and you can often hear it murmuring if you’re sitting out in the garden.

Food and drink

Continental-style breakfasts are served on the wooden terrace in the garden. Expect fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juices, pastries, yoghurt, eggs and cheese, along with tea and coffee. While the hotel has no restaurant, you can request lunch and dinner. Come evening, drinks and snacks are served in the garden. The hotel also lies close to many good local restaurants.

Families

This property’s low-key atmosphere, safely enclosed outside space and proximity to the local restaurants make it a good base for families.

Facilities and activities

The property’s garden has comfortable seating, hammocks and a Jacuzzi with loungers, and it makes a good spot for watching the sun go down (drink in hand optional). The hotel can also arrange massages, beauty treatments, and yoga classes on request. There’s also a small library and sitting room and a laundry service.

Accessibility

There are some wheelchair-accessible rooms on the ground floor.
