Lesic Dimitri Palace

Lešić Dimitri Palace

ǰčܱ, Croatia

An 18th-century Bishop's palace with an adjoining series of medieval stone buildings, this Relais & Châteaux-approved boutique hotel in ǰčܱ Town has had extensive restorations. The result is five sleek and spacious apartments, all of which reference Marco Polo and his historic Silk Route adventures with individual decor themes from different regions.

Guests are met with exposed stone walls, wooden beam ceilings, exquisite handcrafted furniture, and tasteful antiques in addition to quirky yet supremely elegant decor by an Asian-Croatian team of architects and interior designers. The hotel also offers a superb restaurant for Dalmatian cuisine paired with local Croatian wines, a full-service spa for treatments with organic Asian and Dalmatian herbs, roots, flowers and fruits, and use of a classic yacht for guests who want to sail or cruise around the island.

OUR OPINION:

We love the Marco Polo references in the characterful apartments, the refined Asian-meets-Croatian design, and the exceptional service from professional staff at this Relais & Chateaux-approved boutique hotel in ǰčܱ Town.

Excellent

Rooms

Known as residences, the five individually designed apartments are inspired by the famous Silk Routes travelled by Marco Polo. While varying in size and layout, all have kitchenettes, well-stocked minibars, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels and DVD players, en suite bathrooms, and Wi-Fi access. The ground floor Ceylon is the smallest with one bedroom and a vaulted ceiling, while Arabia is a much larger open-plan space with panoramic views of the Pelješac Channel that divides the peninsula from the island. The two-bedroom apartments, China and India, have a sea-facing outdoor terrace and an interior courtyard respectively. The three-bedroom Venice features a large living and dining area, a magnificent carved wooden balcony, and an en suite bathroom in every room.

Location

The central location in the pedestrianised ǰčܱ Town makes it easy to explore the cobblestoned streets on foot. Attractions include the 15th-century St Mark’s Cathedral and the small stone Marco Polo House. Access to the sea is via stairs close to the hotel’s restaurant. For trips to the nearby islands, the two ferry terminals are a five-minute walk away.

Food and drink

The hotel’s restaurant, LD, offers both indoor and seaside dining under the watchful eye of Chef Marko Gajski. The menu is created with seasonal local ingredients and regional recipes and guests can choose from an ever-changing à la carte menu or a professionally paired tasting menu, with the option for Croatian wine pairings included.

Facilities and activities

The hotel’s LD Spa offers Silk Road-inspired therapies and treatment with organic Dalmatian and Asian herbs, roots, flowers, and fruits. The hotel can also arrange a variety of island activities, including sailing tours or sunset cruises on its classic yacht, Vipera.

Accessibility

Given the nature of the historic building, access to all apartments is by stairs only. The surrounding cobblestone streets may prove difficult for those with mobility issues.

Environmental and social responsibility

The hotel’s LD Restaurant is part of the Food for Change campaign that encourages people to ensure that food is both a pleasure and a way to care for the planet.
