Zuleta is a beautiful working farm thriving under the supervision of former Ecuador President Galo Plaza’s descendants. The farm produces a wide range of products, including 5,000 litres of milk per day, cheeses, barley, quinoa, potatoes, wheat, artichokes, organic vegetables, humus and wood and also boasts a wide variety of livestock, dairy cows, sheep and horses.
Opened to a limited number of guests around 10 years ago, the hacienda now offers just 15 rooms. The standard rooms are in the main house and are beautifully decorated and some have access to an internal courtyard. More recently Deluxe rooms have been renovated in a previously unused wing of the hacienda. These offer guests much more space and have a lighter and more airy feel, many have a terrace. Each room has its own private bathroom with bathtub and hot water.
Within the grounds are 60 km of well signed self-guided trails, extensive gardens, a condor rehabilitation centre (open to guests only), fishing pond, mountain biking and Pre-Incan pyramids. Horse riding can also be done along a number of trails on some of the finest horses in Ecuador (extra cost payable locally).
