Gordes
Perched along the terraced hillside of Gordes with commanding views over the Lub茅ron, La Bastide de Gordes is a lovely 18th-century Proven莽al chateau boasting a prestigious 'Palace' distinction. The property occupies a large section of the village and its grounds are dotted with cypress and olive trees, as well as boasting an outdoor heated swimming pool.
Rooms are styled in keeping with the region, featuring wood-beamed ceilings, terracotta tiles or parquet flooring, and antique furniture. There are two restaurants, among them the Restaurant Peir which serves upscale Proven莽al cuisine and boasts two Michelin stars. The Sisley Spa is another highlight, with its own private pool.
As well as being a romantic escape, Bastide de Gordes is also a family-friendly destination with cooking classes and guided hikes on offer. It makes an excellent base for exploring Provence: from here, you can walk the charming cobbled streets of Gordes and explore its restaurants and shops, or head to Avignon, which is less than an hour鈥檚 drive away.
OUR OPINION:
If Gordes is the jewel of Provence, then the Bastide de Gordes is its crowning glory. We think the swimming pool and terraced gardens are exquisite, and we like the classic style of the rooms. Service is also first rate, making this one of our top hotels in the region.

Rooms vary in size and have a local style in one of three different themes, featuring Proven莽al florals, vaulted stone, or classic wooden panels. Antique furniture, wooden armoires and painted portraits adorn the rooms, which have vaulted ceilings and terracotta tile or parquet flooring. Most rooms here look out over the lush landscape or the village of Gordes. Within your room you'll find a range of modern amenities, including Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a flat-screen TV.
Location
Wrapped along the hillside of medieval Gordes, La Bastide de Gordes is ideally situated in the heart of the Lub茅ron, making it easy to explore the landscape of Provence. With the village at your doorstep, you can meander through the warren of cobbled streets and discover a selection of restaurants where you can dine in the evening. The lavender fields of Abbaye de S茅nanque are also just at the bottom of the hill. From the hotel you can take a drive into Avignon, which has the nearest train station and is around an hour's drive away.聽

Among the dining options here, the Restaurant Peir is the most well-known, holding the distinction of two Michelin stars and serving gourmet Proven莽al dishes in an intimate eight-table dining room. The bistro-style L鈥橭rangerie is a great option for lunch, boasting an outdoor terrace and tower with views out over the countryside. We also recommend enjoying an ap茅ritif here for great views of the sunset.
