Using your own vehicle for self-drive touring
-
Your trip begins by crossing the Channel by ferry to Calais. From here, you’ll drive across France, through Belgium to Luxembourg City, breaking the six-and-a-half-hour journey with our recommended stops in some charming Belgian towns.
-
In the morning, enjoy a two-hour private walking tour of Luxembourg City’s historic district, before exploring the surrounding countryside by car. You can visit ‘Little Switzerland’ (so-called for the similarity of its landscapes), the World War II memorials and museums of Diekirch, or the Valley of the Seven Castles.
-
Leaving Luxembourg, you’ll drive east into Germany and to the Black Forest city of Freiburg, a three-hour journey. After checking into your hotel you’ll explore the city with a local guide, visiting the cathedral, the historical Münsterplatz, and the Merchants’ Hall along the way.
-
Today, you’ll join a local guide and visit the Freiburg farmers’ market for an introduction into the culture of the Black Forest. Afterwards, drive to Hofgut Sternen, a recreated Black Forest village, for a private cooking class.
-
Leaving the Black Forest, you’ll drive east while enjoying views of Lake Constance, before arriving at Munich in about four hours. You can choose to take your time on the scenic drive or use the free afternoon to explore Munich on your own.
-
Visit the Eagle’s Nest, the mountaintop meeting place of the Nazi Party until its capture in May 1945. From here, continue to Salzburg for a guided tour of the city before returning to Munich in the afternoon.
-
Departing from Munich, make a stop at the fairytale-inspiring Neuschwanstein Castle, en route to Innsbruck, a drive of just over two hours.
-
Explore Innsbruck at your leisure before enjoying a Tyrolean dinner show. Musical entertainers will regale you with traditional Tyrolean performances, including thigh-slapping dances and yodelling.
-
Your journey today takes you across the border into the fourth country on this trip. You’ll once again pass Lake Constance, this time on the south side. Take a break at Stein am Rhenium to see the picturesque painted houses, before continuing onto ´Üü°ù¾±³¦³ó for an early evening cruise on Lake ´Üü°ù¾±³¦³ó.
-
Join a small group for a day touring the countryside surrounding ´Üü°ù¾±³¦³ó and meeting some of its local producers. You’ll visit a cheese manufacturer, a chocolate factory and have lunch atop a mountain with views across the Alps.
-
Journey back into France today, heading north to reach the Champagne region. Spend a night in the Champagne-producing town of Reims and sample the classic sparkling wine among the vines at sunset.
-
The final stretch of your trip is a three-hour drive north to Calais for the ferry crossing back to England.
