Petite Anse

Grenada

A warm welcome awaits at this lovely little boutique hotel on the unspoilt north coast of Grenada.

It was the dream of the owners, Philip and Annie, to live by the ocean, so they left England in search of that special place they could call home.聽After several years at sea running a yacht charter business, they fell in love with Grenada and its friendly people, and so Petite Anse was born.

The hotel is set above a wild sandy beach looking out across the Caribbean Sea to the Grenadines, and the individual cottages are nestled in tropical gardens. A unique property, it has a simple and relaxed, rustic atmosphere, a beautiful location and a unique feeling of staying in someone鈥檚 private home.

OUR OPINION:

You鈥檒l experience a unique blend of nature, relaxation and wonderful hospitality away from the more developed side of the island. It will feel more like you鈥檙e staying at a friend鈥檚 home, so if you really want to get under the skin of the island and immerse yourself in local life, Petite Anse is definitely for you. Please note the owners have seven dogs and numerous cats that wander around the resort so this may not be a good choice if you don't like dogs or cats.

Rooms

There are 13 simply furnished air-conditioned cottages and suites set in beautiful lush tropical gardens. All of them have a hand carved bed, ceiling fan, shower, tea and coffee making facilities, mini fridge, Wi-Fi, private deck or terrace and a view of the sea.

The rooms are not luxurious but are certainly charming and are furnished with both hand-made local pieces and family furniture brought over from England.

Location

Petite Anse is set on the unspoilt northern coast of Grenada, one of the best kept secrets of the Caribbean. Most of Grenada鈥檚 hotels are set in the south of the island and the north coast has a much quieter, more local feel.

The hotel sits above a wild, sandy beach which has a dramatic and rugged beauty, backed by lush jungle and rocks and looking out to the Grenadines.聽Please note that sometimes the waves can be rough, so often it will not be suitable for swimming and it鈥檚 not a typical sunbathing beach.

Petite Anse is a great base for exploring the north coast including Belmont Plantation, Levera National Park, fishing villages and historic rum distilleries.

Food and drink

At the heart of Petite Anse is a large lounge with French windows opening on to a terrace that offers fabulous views and this serves as the restaurant, bar and lounge. You鈥檒l find the owner's school photos on a wall of the bar, wicker armchairs and sofas, providing a feeling of a country home in the tropics.

The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, all day snacks and dinner, and the food is good, honest, tasty Caribbean and European cuisine with the emphasis on fresh fish and locally grown fruit and vegetables with herbs grown in their own garden. They even make their own ice cream.

Families

There are no age restrictions at the hotel but due to the ambience, style and setting of the hotel it is probably best suited to older children. There are two interconnecting cottages which can be used for families.

Environmental and social responsibility

Annie is known in the region for providing support to the local children鈥檚 home, Father Mallaghan's. She holds various events to raise money to fund the running of this home, which cares for boys between the ages of 7-14 who have been taken out of their own homes due to severe abuse and neglect.聽

Local excursions

Petite Anse is well located for exploring Grenada鈥檚 north and there are a variety of great places to discover. Historic Belmont Plantation dates back to the 17th century and is still producing cocoa while River Antoine Rum Distillery is the oldest water-driven distillery in the Caribbean.聽Remote Levera National Park has great hiking trails through its volcanic landscape.

If you鈥檙e here between April and July, we highly recommend taking a turtle nesting tour.

Diving

There is no dive facility at Petite Anse and most of Grenada鈥檚 dive sites are best accessed from the south or west. If you would like to dive during your stay on Grenada, we recommend combining some time at Petite Anse exploring the north with some time in the south to see both sides of the island.

Spa Facilities

There is no spa at Petite Anse, but they can arrange for someone to come in for a massage in the comfort of your own room.
