Old Delhi City Tour

Should you choose, your guide will take you on a cycle rickshaw through the Chandni Chowk Bazaar area. This allows you to visit the narrow winding alleys lined with shops selling all manner of items.

The Red Fort has recently been accredited as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Built by the creator of the Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan, with 2.5 km of snaking battlements, the fort dominates the skyline of Old Delhi. It is mostly occupied for military purposes, but a great deal of it can be seen.

If you are visiting Agra, you will see a finer example of the design there; the Jama Masjid.

The Friday Mosque in Old Delhi is the second largest mosque in the subcontinent, with a capacity for 20,000 people. The mosque was built between 1644 and 1658 by the last two of the great Mughal rulers, Shah Jahan and his son, Aurangzeb. For many people, this is the first mosque they have ever visited, and the atmosphere, a mixture of serene calm and social centre, is often a surprise to visitors.

Raj Ghat is the site of Mahatma Gandhi’s funeral pyre after his assassination in 1948. The world has also witnessed on television the memorable cremations of Nehru, his daughter Indira Gandhi, and most recently Rajiv Gandhi.
