Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco

Italy

Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is an attractive property that's also a renowned winery and boasts a superb 18-hole golf course. It used to be a village in its own right, dating back to the early 12th century, and the old chapel and watchtower still stand.

Now part of the UNESCO-certified Val D’Orcia National Park, the grounds span woodland and vineyards and the rooms are spread out across multiple buildings, giving it a very private, intimate feel. With a wonderful spa, two bars and a fantastic restaurant, as well as plenty of activities — from olive picking to cooking classes and tennis — there's lots to do at this charming Tuscan property.

OUR OPINION:

Ideal for golf or wine enthusiasts, the impressive Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is one Tuscany’s most luxurious options and offers impeccable service. We particularly enjoyed exploring the beautiful grounds, pausing to admire the magnificent views.

Excellent

Rooms

The rooms and suites at the Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco are situated within what used to be the main section of the village. As such, all offer easy access to the spa, swimming pool and restaurants. Inside, they have the atmosphere of a classic Tuscan country retreat, decorated with paintings of pheasants and other game, plush linens and sumptuous fabrics. Scattered across the grounds are a selection of private villas, many of which offer their own large sun terraces or pools. These can easily accommodate larger groups of friends or families.

Location

Situated just 38 km (23 miles) south of Siena, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is an excellent base from which to explore the wonders of Tuscany. The lovely hilltop town of Montalcino is only 13 km (8 miles) away, and a little further afield is San Gimignano. There are also plenty of high calibre wineries on your doorstep for a spot of tasting.

Food and drink

Ristorante el Campo del Drago serves an excellent selection of gourmet Tuscan specialities with wonderful views across the valley. Other options, apart from the in-villa dining, are the two bars serving light snacks and lunches. There's the Pool Bar for a relaxed drink and bite to eat in the sunshine, and the Osteria el Canonica, which is a rustic wine bar serving tapas-style dishes.

Facilities and activities

You're not short of choice when it comes to activities at the Rosewood. There's a beautiful 18-hole golf course, a heated infinity pool and an excellent spa, complete with sauna and steam room, where you can relax while enjoying an array of treatments. There are also cooking classes tailored to all ages, an excellent winery and, depending on the season, guests can also participate in farm activities, olive picking or horseback riding.
