Mozambique is wild, beautiful, and relatively undeveloped, which is all part of its charm. For honeymooners, one of its main attractions are the miles of palm-fringed white-sand beaches that stretch along its coast. Our Mozambique specialists are seasoned visitors to the country and will create the perfect tailor-made honeymoon itinerary for you using their first-hand knowledge.
For your Mozambique honeymoon, you could either enjoy the country as an indulgent, stand-alone beach break, staying on an island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, or choose to unwind here after a South Africa safari.
A beach-only Mozambique honeymoon
If you鈥檇 like time on the beach, we can help you choose which stay would be best for you from our collection of beachfront properties. We like Bahia Mar Boutique Hotel for its intimate size and idyllic setting, while Azura Benguerra oozes character thanks to its traditional d茅cor and thatched private villas.
Whichever option you choose, all of our stays on the archipelago offer a wide mix of activities to make your time in Mozambique memorable, from water sports to insightful village visits and private picnics set on secluded beaches.
Combining Mozambique’s beaches with a safari
If you want to combine beach relaxation with a safari, you can easily fly to the Bazaruto Archipelago from South Africa’s Kruger National Park. You’ll need to catch a connecting light aircraft flight from the coastal town of Vilanculos for a short, scenic flight over the island-scattered ocean.
For your safari, we suggest staying in Sabi Sands Game Reserve, a private reserve sharing an unfenced border with the Kruger that’s particularly known for its leopard sightings, as well as being home to the rest of the Big Five, cheetah, and an abundance of birdlife.
Because visitor numbers in private reserves are more limited than the main national park, you’ll see fewer vehicles around and have many wildlife sightings all to yourself. It also means you can drive off road to track wildlife, enjoy walking safaris with expert guides, and stay out after dark for a chance to spot nocturnal species like porcupines and genets.
The camps and lodges in Sabi Sands are luxe (think infinity pools, high-quality meals, and spa treatments) while still embracing the traditional safari experience. You can relax on the lounge deck between activities, perhaps spotting passing wildlife through your binoculars, and exchange stories from your day’s adventures around the campfire, gazing up at the star-filled night sky.
Once you reach the Bazaruto Archipelago, you can spend your days however you wish — which feels refreshing after a safari with set activities. You could spend languid afternoons sprawled on a powder-white beach or being pampered in your hotel’s spa, join a diving or snorkelling trip in the crystal-clear water to see the vivid tropical fish flitting among the coral, or take a walk to explore villages and forests inland.
In the evening, we recommend taking in the sunset from a traditional dhow boat, clinking glasses to toast the start of your married life.
