Plying the classic short route between Bagan and Mandalay, the RV Paukan 2007 is a timeless way to explore Myanmar’s main waterway.

While on board you’ll be treated to home comforts made possible through the vessel’s design, friendly service and attention to detail. Drawing on the heritage of Paukan’s original 1947 steamer, the interior features timber walls, colonial-style furniture and traditional Burmese ceilings, while the dining room’s design is based on the monasteries found throughout the country.

During the day you’ll be accompanied by a resident expert guide on a variety of excursions that will provide a fascinating introduction into some the country’s main sites, including the temples of Bagan and the rolling hills surrounding Mandalay.

Cabins

RV Paukan 2007 features a number of cabin options, all of which are air conditioned with en suite bathrooms. There are 14 double or twin Deluxe cabins on the upper deck offering 21 square metres of living space and a sliding picture window leading to a French balcony. Ten 16 square metre Standard cabins with twin beds are located on the main deck, each opening out onto a furnished promenade that runs around the ship.

Down on the lower deck are three single cabins offering ten square metres of living space, while the bow of the ship features two spacious Suites, each 40 square metres in size with prime views of the river through large windows and a French balcony.

Dining

  • Dining room serving local and international cuisine. Breakfast and lunch may be served buffet-style depending on the number of passengers, but dinner is a sit down meal with a table d'hôte menu
  • Special dietary requirements, including vegetarian dishes, can be catered for if informed in advance
  • Bar on sun deck
  • Glass walled saloon bar serving cocktails and other beverages along with light meals and snacks
  • Complimentary bottled water, tea, coffee and homemade cookies

Routes

  • Ayeyarwady River — 1 and 2-night cruises between Bagan and Mandalay and vice versa.

The character of this traditional teak flotilla transports you back to the early 1900s. Added to that, the Bow Suite with its private balcony is one of my favourite cabins on the Ayeyarwady River.
