Itinerary idea in detail

Includes international flights from a choice of UK airports, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

  • Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Yangon.

  • Arrive in the city of Yangon, where you will be met at the airport and driven to your hotel by private vehicle.

  • With your private guide enjoy a tour of the city's highlights and a ride on the circle train. This is a great chance to interact with the local people, who will be interested to chat with you. The day ends with a visit to the Shwedagon at sunset.

  • This morning you depart Yangon for Kyaiktiyo to visit the revered Buddhist site of Golden Rock.

  • Continue your journey further south to Mawlamyine where you will have the afternoon to explore this sleepy riverside town.

  • Today visit the terminus of the Death Railway at Thanbyuzayat as well as the interesting Yele Pagoda at Kyaikkami.

  • From Mawlamyine you head to Hpa-An in Karen State by small private boat where you will visit the Kawgun Caves.

  • Continue your journey from Hpa-An to Yangon where you will spend the night.

  • This morning you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Mandalay, where you will be met by your new driver and guide. From Mandalay you will travel to the hill station of Pyin Oo Lwin (Maymyo). Enjoy an afternoon at leisure exploring this interesting town.

Stay at Hotel Pyin Oo Lwin
  • You can explore Pyin Oo Lwin by car, or alternatively you can hire a pony and trap — the local taxi. The main sights include the colourful Chinese temple, the Central Market, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception. You can also include a visit to the botanical gardens or a little further outside the town is the Mahar Anhtoo Kan Tha Pagoda.

Stay at Hotel Pyin Oo Lwin
  • This morning you will travel to the small station of Naung Cho where you will board the train to travel over the scenic Goteik Viaduct. Your driver will meet you at the next station where you will drive back down to Mandalay.

  • Mandalay has a surprising amount to offer for those who know where to find it. Today's tour has been designed to reveal Mandalay from a diverse and interesting perspective.

  • Today you will travel along the Ayeyarwady River to Yandabo where you spend the night. The ferry will take approximately four to five hours. From the afternoon, enjoy a unique experience visiting a local family home to see where pottery for the area is made, followed by a short boat trip to a village, relatively untouched by tourism as yet and just before sunset buffalo come to drink from the water springs — a beautifully Burmese sight!

  • After a leisurely morning, check out and board the ferry to Bagan at approximately midday. The downstream journey takes around four hours and has you arriving in the beautiful old city for sunset. The lunch included on board is simple so you may wish to eat at Yandabo Home before departure. On arrival in Bagan you will be met by your new driver and guide and transferred to your hotel.

  • This morning you will visit the dusty plains of Bagan, exploring some of the many temples and stupas that make this site an historical treasure.

  • Fly to Heho and transfer to the former colonial hill station of Kalaw. You have the afternoon at leisure.

  • Visit the Green Hill Valley Elephant Centre for a chance to interact with these incredible creatures and learn about the work of this worthwhile project.

  • You depart Kalaw for a nearby village where your two-day trek begins. Walk through ethnic villages and stop off for local delicacies before staying the night at the village monastery.

  • After breakfast continue your trek through Shan State and numerous villages heading for the temples of Indein and Inle Lake for lunch.

  • Enjoy a day exploring the serene nature of Inle Lake visiting floating communities, markets and interacting with the local Intha people.

  • Day at leisure to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity.

  • Fly to Yangon where you have use of a day room at a hotel close to the airport and a driver and guide at your disposal for any last-minute shopping or visits. Early evening fly to Bangkok and connect with your onward flight. Your return flight will arrive the same day.
