At the eastern end of the Zambezi Region (Caprivi Strip) the Chobe River forms the border between Namibia and Botswana.

On the Botswana bank lies the famous Chobe National Park which attracts numerous visitors on safari (the Namibian banks are very different).

With just two small lodges the area is a wonderful water wilderness: there are floodplains, papyrus channels, islands, riverine forest and not a single road.

Wildlife along the Chobe River

Hippo, Chobe RiverGame is abundant and the area is renowned for its diverse and prolific wildlife, including the rare puku antelope. It is home to large herds of elephant, buffalo and hippo, as well as concentrations of other wildlife including giraffe, sable, wild dog, lion and other predators which come down to the river's edge to drink, graze and hunt.

There are no game viewing loops on the Namibian side of the Chobe River so activities are by boat, sometimes stopping off on islands for picnics and sundowners.

Nature walks and guided canoeing are also possible, as are full day trips into the Chobe National Park. Gliding along the river you can approach the animals from close quarters as well as enjoying the myriad of brightly coloured birds.
