This tour takes in the "La Merced" church, the house of the Zamora family, the impressive brightly painted cathedral, the famous "Casa de Los Tres Mundos" and the San Francisco convent with its iconic blue façade. The convent now houses an impressive collection of genuine pre-Columbian sculptures in human and animal shapes.
During the tour you will learn the history of the city, and about the adventures of William Walker, who invaded the city in the year 1855. There is the chance to learn about the civil wars that have virtually destroyed the city in the past. At the same time, you witness the current restoration process which only makes the city even more attractive. Due to the historical and cultural value of the city, it is in the process of being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Finally you continue to Lake Nicaragua for a relaxing boat ride around some of the islands formed by the impressive Mombacho volcano, now inhabited by the wealthy Nicaraguans as well as crumbling forts. The boat trip affords fabulous views back across Granada and the imposing Mombacho volcano.
