Your tour of the atmospheric city of León will begin at its colonial heart with a visit to the Metropolitan Cathedral, the largest in Central America, and the Main Plaza.
The plaza is always alive with the hubbub of locals congregating to chat and buy snacks from the food stalls that surround the square. It is a great place to people watch. From here you will walk to visit the childhood house of Ruben Dario, the acknowledged prince of Castilian poetry, and the beautiful, brightly-coloured El Calvario church and the Recoleccion. You will also have time to browse the delightful pieces in the "Ortiz Gurdian" art gallery, plus a look around the "El Convento" hotel with its colonial architecture.
During the walking tour you will get to know the historic murals of the city and will understand the role played by León in the social, economic and political development of Nicaragua.
Please note the museums are closed Mondays and many churches are closed to visitors on Sundays.
