Lyngen Lodge sits unobtrusively on the banks of Lyngenfjord, overlooking the peaks of the often snow-capped Lyngen Alps. ‘Unobtrusively’ is no exaggeration, either: this entire eight-room, boutique property has been built in the style of traditional pine log cabins, and is designed to blend into the surrounding Arctic landscape. Roofs are covered in grass, and the concept is that, if the lodge were ever to close, you would hardly know it had been there at all.
The lodge has an intimate, relaxed feel, with a sauna and Jacuzzi, and a communal lounge complete with roaring log fire and telescope. Rooms are snug and Scandi-chic, with understated, neutral interiors and views over the mountains or fjords.
You stay here on a full-board basis, and the food is world-class, making use of local produce such as reindeer and lamb, as well as local berries, herbs, and seaweed. What really sets this place apart, though, is the array of activities you can try, whether you’re staying in summer or winter — everything from northern lights chasing to e-biking in the mountains and deep-sea fishing. The lodge’s isolation, its vantage point and views, and the small number of rooms, give it a real exclusivity.
If you’re looking for an active trip and to experience the Arctic wilderness at its most pristine, but also value privacy and a tranquil setting, there’s truly no better place than Lyngen Lodge.

Rooms
The lodge has eight individually designed rooms, which can accommodate up to 16 guests. They’re tastefully decorated in a palette of cream, taupe, grey, and white, with woolly blankets, throws, candles, and cushions adding cosy touches. Some rooms have exposed pine-log walls, others are painted white.
Rooms are located on either the ground or first floor of wooden chalets. They have double or single (twin) beds and views of the mountains or Lyngenfjord. All rooms have en suite bathrooms and come with fluffy bathrobes and hair dryers.
Location
The lodge’s setting — suspended between fjord and mountains — is one of the most secluded in Norway, and means that you needn’t travel far to participate in activities such as river cruises past waterfalls and snowmobiling over frozen lakes. Getting there involves a two-and-a-half-hour drive from the airport at Tromsø, though it’s possible to take a scenic flight from the city to the lodge.
