The lodge sits in the countryside to the east of Plettenberg Bay. Situated on the edge of the Matjies River gorge, it has a steep landscape profile, with dramatic drop-off views from balconies and decks.
The décor is earthy and relaxed, incorporating African handicrafts and artwork. The main lodge has several lounge areas, as well as a large dining room where meals are served family-style around a big table. There is a spacious sun deck where breakfasts and lunches are served, and a canvas canopy covers a sitting area with chairs and tables — a good spot to enjoy the views.
An appealing, peaceful and private retreat that is ideally located for exploring the Plettenberg Bay area. Owners Andy and Debbie live and work there, which helps to create a real sense of home from home.

Rooms
The suites are all set within the gardens surrounding the main house, with views overlooking the forest and mountains. Rooms are decorated in earthy tones with colourful accents and African-style touches. All have en suite bathrooms with a bath and shower, and wooden decks with chairs. Some decks also have hammocks. Three suites have two storeys: a main loft bedroom upstairs and a lounge area with sofa beds below. Please note that suites have no televisions or phones. A large villa (formerly the owners' home) can accommodate up to six people and has its own swimming pool and kitchen.
Location
Positioned in the Hog Hollow Nature Reserve, the lodge is within easy reach of the beaches, shops and restaurants in Plettenberg Bay — about 20 kilometres away — as well as the tranquil Tsitsikamma area. The closest airport is in George, a 90-minute drive by car. Nature trails surround the property, with one leading to a bird sanctuary (approximately an hour’s walk).
Food and drink
Generally, meals at Hog Hollow Country Lodge are eaten communally with everyone seated around a large table. The generous farmhouse buffet breakfasts are a particular highlight along with the hearty three-course evening meals. Should you prefer to dine in private, the lodge has several little spots where individual tables can be set up for you.
Families
Children are welcome at the lodge. The loft suites are suitable for two adults and two children aged 12 or under. Children are accommodated on a double sleeper couch downstairs while parents’ bedrooms are located upstairs. A babysitting service is available on request at an additional cost. Children eat earlier than adult guests, but separate family dining can be arranged.
Facilities and activities
The lodge has a pool area with loungers and runs horseback trails for guests. Massages are available and treatments are carried out on a secluded wooden deck, or in the privacy of your suite. The lodge managers are happy to assist with the planning and booking of local trips and will give advice on how best to explore the area.

Sailing & Sea Kayaking
There are a few outfits that offer sailing trips into Plettenberg Bay as well as sea kayaking. Apart from spectacular offshore coastal scenery, it is very likely that at some stage, a close encounter with the marine animals will occur so you can get very close to them.
