Rosenhof Country House

Oudtshoorn & Surrounds, South Africa

Originally a Victorian homestead dating to around 1852, Rosenhof has been thoughtfully renovated, with its yellowwood beams, antique furniture and quaint style creating a sophisticated, regal ambience whilst still feeling homely. Beautiful gardens are filled with roses, the scent of which fills the air as you take afternoon tea out on the covered veranda. Fountains, ponds and shady trees add to the peaceful atmosphere, while the inviting pool is surrounded by sun loungers where you can while away an afternoon with a book.

Inside, cosy lounges feature fireplaces and local artwork and the guest rooms are individually appointed, adding to the property’s charm.

OUR OPINION:

A hotel of great history and character, we believe Rosenhof provides a lovely place to relax and unwind from the rigours of travelling, as well as being a fantastic base for exploring the Little Karoo.

Rooms

The spacious guest rooms are positioned around the lawn and fountain, featuring en suite bathrooms, satellite TVs, air conditioning, safes, hair dryers, minibars and tea/coffee making facilities. Executive Suites are set further away from the main area for privacy and boast their own private pools, patios and separate lounge areas. They also offer beautiful views of Swartberg Mountain. All rooms accommodate up to two guests in double or twin beds, with the furnishings blending modern and Victorian styles.

Location

The property is situated on the outskirts of Oudtshoorn, 50 kilometres from George airport. It’s well-located for those planning to visit the Cango Caves, which are 30 kilometres away, and some of the area’s ostrich farms, four of which are within 20 kilometres. Oudtshoorn is known as ‘the ostrich capital of the world’ thanks to the ostrich feather booms of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Food and drink

The property’s restaurant serves traditional country dishes with cordon bleu influences. Meals can be accompanied by some of South Africa’s finest wines, and special dietary requirements can be catered for. Delicious breakfasts are served in a buffet style and can be enjoyed in the sun-filled breakfast room, which looks out over the gardens. Afternoon tea is also served each day out in the gardens.

Facilities and activities

Guests can relax in the outdoor pool or on the surrounding sun loungers, while the more active can work out in the gym. There’s also a sauna, which is part of the spa facility. Here, you can indulge in a range of treatments, including body wraps and exfoliation, facials, massages, manicures and pedicures. Internet access and laundry services are available.
