Savanna has a traditional style, with high thatched roofs and cosy wooden interiors which include a cosy lounge area with a stone fireplace and comfy sofas. There is also a loft area where you can enjoy a game of chess or a good book and gaze out over the floodlit waterhole, where birds and game can often be seen drinking.
Lanterns, wooden beams and neutral tones create a warm, homely atmosphere, and in the evening you can drink and dine around the fire in the open-air boma. The friendly, professional service and knowledgeable guides makes a stay here even more special.
Savanna’s staff go out of their way to provide an exceptional stay for their guests. We find the personal touches make the safari experience the best it could be, while the delicious food is a real treat.

Photos of Savanna Private Game Reserve
Rooms
The camp has just a small number of spacious suites, each consisting of canvas externally, but with solid walls inside, giving the impression of a tented lodge. All have en suite bathrooms and wooden decks looking out over the bush; some with waterhole views.
Luxury Suites are set among natural foliage for privacy, while the larger Executive Suites are set in a secluded spot, offering sitting areas and private plunge pools on their covered patios. The thatched Savanna Suite has two en suite bedrooms, each of which opens onto a covered patio with plunge pool. The bedrooms are separated by a spacious lounge with a TV and fireplace and can be booked individually or as a whole for families.
Location
The lodge is situated in the western side of Sabi Sands Game Reserve, which is part of the Greater Kruger National Park — South Africa’s largest conservation area. Wildlife is free to roam between the reserve and the national park, so game drives and walks give you the chance to see the Big Five as well as a diverse range of other mammal, bird and reptile species.
Food and drink
Breakfasts consist of full English options as well as fresh fruits, pastries and homemade muesli. Buffet lunches include salads, meats and vegetables, while dinners are enjoyed by candlelight out on the deck, consisting of local and international dishes. Barbecues are held in the open-air boma or out in the bush and meals are occasionally accompanied by a local choir performance.
Families
Children of all ages can stay in the Savanna Suite, but they must be aged eight or over to enter the main lodge. The Savanna Suite comes with a butler service, with meals served privately on the patio and a children’s menu available. The Bushbabies programme provides activities for children, including small animal tracking, hair braiding, face painting, arts and crafts, birdwatching, star drives and cooking classes.
Facilities and activities
The lodge has a well-equipped, air conditioned gym, a library with Wi-Fi access and facilities for transferring digital photos captured on safari onto CD or DVD, and a swimming pool set within the gardens with views of the waterhole. Guests can also indulge in a relaxing massage from the lodge’s qualified therapist, who offers a range of treatments in the privacy of your room. There’s also a curio gift shop on site to purchase souvenirs before you leave.
