Combarro and the Adega Eidos winery

Adega Eidos winery

You’ll weave your way around the historic heart of Combarro, an 18th-century fishing village with traditional Galician casas marineras (sea houses) and hórreos (raised granaries), before heading to the Bodega Adega Eido in the Val do Salnes for a wine tasting tour.

Today, you’ll have a private driver at your disposal, who’ll collect you from your hotel and take you to the village of Combarro, where you can explore at your own leisure. Afterwards, you’ll head on to the winery of Adega Eidos for a small group tour and tasting.

Resting on the shores of Ria de Pontevedra, just six kilometres (3.7 miles) from Pontevedra, Combarro is a microcosm of 18th-century Galician cultural heritage. It is a typical viliña mariñeria (small fishing village) of the Rías Baixas estuaries and its casco histórico (old town) is best explored on foot.

Starting in the Plaza de San Roque with its 18th-century library, you’ll weave among traditional Galician casas marineras (sea houses) with their covered walkways and columned balconies, each reflecting the resident’s social status and wealth. Many have their own raised granaries known as hórreos. Throughout the village you’ll also spot a plethora of ornate crosses, depicting the Virgin Mary facing out to sea and Christ facing the ground. If the tide is out, you can pick your way across Padrón Beach to the outlying fishing village of Peirao.

Afterwards, your driver will take you to Bodega Adega Eidos, at the southern end of the Val do Salnés near Sanxenxo. Your tour will take you around the small, ancient plots of this family-owned bodega. You’ll learn how the low-lying land, rich soils, and Atlantic weather patterns create an ideal viticulture microclimate, which contributes to the enhanced quality of the grapes grown here. The winery produces Albariño wine — known for its crisp, aromatic notes — which you’ll be able to taste, paired with local Galician cheese.
