The oldest hotel in the resort town of Wengen, the chalet-style Hotel Alpenrose defines rustic Alpine charm, from its location tucked into the side of a hill to the views it has of the village below and the Bernese Alps all around.
The hotel’s lobby is warm and simple, with plenty of exposed pine, country-style furnishings and a dining room serving breakfast and dinner. Run by the same family for five generations, the Hotel Alpenrose excels at creating an atmosphere of peaceful welcome.
The 40 rooms all have knotty-pine walls, carved wooden furniture and large windows that take advantage of the views. Some rooms have a mountain view, while others face the trees, but all have balconies where you can take in the mountain air.
In its location on the outskirts of the car-free town, Alpenrose is very quiet, yet still accessible with its complimentary shuttle service. You can relax in your mountain retreat, or take the shuttle or an eight-minute walk to the train station, where you can embark for all your adventures in the Jungfrau region.
OUR OPINION:
We love the views from this slightly removed hotel and the family-run atmosphere. Staying at the Alpenrose is a good way to see everything you want to in the Jungfrau region, without worrying about the crowds.
The hotel’s 40 rooms all share rustic Alpine decor, with knotty-pine walls, carved-wood furniture and curtains and cushions in neutrals and warm reds. Both single and double rooms have the option of facing the north side, with no view, or the south side, with a view of the Lauterbrunnen Valley and the mountains. The mountain view rooms have private balconies.
The Chalet Rosen is a two-room suite in a freestanding building, with plenty of space and privacy. There are also three apartments in the Chalet Erika, all with one or two bedrooms and mountain views.
Wi-Fi, breakfast and dinner are all included. There is no air conditioning, but it’s not needed in this climate.
