Selous Impala Camp is set among borassus palms and tamarind trees on the banks of the Rufiji River. In the centre of camp there's a large, relaxed, open-plan area on wooden decking, complete with a well-stocked bar. The dining room and veranda in the main area are filled with lounge chairs and sofas, making a great space to relax as you flick through the wildlife books provided or watch wildlife by the river with a cool drink in hand. The local African art and décor create an authentic, homely environment, while the sheltered swimming pool nearby is the perfect place for cooling down in during the heat of the day.
As there are no fences, game is free to wander through the camp. Guests are escorted to and from their tents in the evenings by Maasai warriors, just in case any of the animals are a little too inquisitive.
Selous Impala Camp is a very special place to stay. The accommodation is comfortable, the standard of guiding is very high and the ambiance is very friendly, with an excellent level of service.

Rooms
The camp has just a handful of comfortable tents, which are set on high wooden decking and offer magnificent views of the river and forest beyond from private verandas. Furnished in a colonial style, they each feature a bedroom, a dressing room, a safe and an en suite bathroom with a shower and flush toilet. A double zipped entrance keeps out insects, as well as roll down canvas on the windows. The tents have double or twin beds, and there are two Family Tents which share a veranda.
Location
Selous Impala Camp is in a great location for exploring Nyerere National Park and its remarkable wildlife. Situated within the national park, the camp's proximity to the river allows for fantastic boat safaris to take place in the late afternoon.
Food and drink
Breakfast consists of a continental buffet, with the option to have a hot breakfast cooked to order. Guests may also opt to have breakfast out in the bush if planning to go out for an earlier game drive, which makes for a very special experience. The food here is of a very high standard and private set menu dinners are served in various locations throughout your stay. On two nights a week you can enjoy a traditional Swahili barbecue, which is a great opportunity to try some of the local cuisine.
Families
Children aged eight years and over are welcome to stay at Selous Impala Camp, but only those aged 16 and over can take part in the walking safaris. The two Family Tents can accommodate up to six people comfortably.
Facilities and activities
Activities from camp include boat trips, game drives, walking safaris and fly camping (this must be pre-booked). The camp's location close to a network of channels, connecting lakes and lagoons provides guests with the opportunity to go on boat safaris, allowing you to experience the area's spectacular concentration of wildlife and birds (over 300 species in the area). Game drives and walking excursions are also very rewarding, while fishing trips can be arranged and paid for locally. Other facilities include a swimming pool and a laundry service.
