Nestled under a shady beech tree, this Victorian bed and breakfast inn has been faithfully restored and authentically preserved to reflect the charm of its colonial heritage. The inn is set in pretty manicured grounds, featuring a large rear deck where breakfast is served in the mornings. There's also a front porch furnished with rocking chairs, which provide an inviting environment in which to relax and watch the world go by.
Period antiques and a nautical theme can be found throughout the property's rooms, which are individually decorated and filled with plenty of natural light. Guests can stroll into Newport or spend the day on the beach, with the inn making a relaxing base for your time in Rhode Island.
From the moment that you arrive at the Marshall Slocum Inn you'll be made to feel at home. Although slightly set back from the main harbour front of Newport, you're just an easy stroll away from the town's main shops and restaurants and the peaceful location means that you can enjoy a good night's sleep away from the hustle and bustle.

Rooms
There are just five air-conditioned guest rooms, each individually decorated with elegant, period antiques and nautical artwork. Some also offer a fireplace and a whirlpool bath, and while there are no TVs, each room features Wi-Fi access and an iPad complete with Netflix. In addition to the main inn's guest rooms, there are two apartment-style rooms in the grounds which offer their own private entrances and flat-screen TVs.
Location
The inn is situated just a ten-minute walk from the beach, cliff walk, harbour front and downtown Newport.
Food and drink
Breakfast is served from 7.30am each morning in the dining room or on the large rear decking — our favourite spot. A range of delicious dishes to suit all tastes are served by the highly trained Chef Spring and his team — we particularly recommend the French toast. For lunch and dinner you can easily stroll into downtown Newport to try its variety of restaurants and cafés — the inn's staff will be happy to recommend the best places.
Facilities and activities
The inn offers daily bicycle rental (with helmets and locks) which provides a great way to explore the beautiful tree-lined avenues of Newport. The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) also operates a trolley service which stops 100 metres away from the inn and can take you to the mansions on Bellevue Avenue. Beach towels can also be provided for all guests visiting the nearby beach.
