The Church House Gourmet Retreat is a hosted boutique guesthouse, featuring just four en suite rooms, rebuilt from the remnants of a timber church originally constructed in Melbourne in 1876. It now sits proudly atop a 20 acre hilltop in Fish Creek, considered “the gateway to Wilsons Promontory” — environs that feature extensive walking and riding trails, and white sand beaches.
The Church House has an impressive double height vaulted ceiling that sits atop the characterful dining, living and casual sitting areas. Upon arrival your hosts Peter & Mary will welcome you to join them for afternoon tea and a chat.
In-house “paddock to plate” dining is on offer, with an extensive choice of wines from their cellar. The dinner is preceded by a complimentary drink and canapes, which can include wine grown and made by your hosts. Food is all freshly prepared and cooked on the premises — speciality dishes include beef and lamb from the property, seafood sausages, cured duck breast salad, duck ravioli and deboned coral trout, all of which provide a wonderful taste of the East Gippsland region’s best local suppliers.
An Audley favorite — boutique, characterful accommodation, wonderful local hosts and stunning vistas make this a stay to remember.
