Coral Sands is found on sleepy Harbour Island, on the eastern beach which was once an 18th-century enclave of wealthy refugees from the American War of Independence. Bahamian charm exudes from the tropical landscape, laidback ambiance and free-roaming chickens.
The boutique hotel has 38 rooms, suites, cottages and villas, with interior decor by British designer Barbara Hulanicki, the founder of the Biba fashion label. The hotel’s two alfresco restaurants offer either poolside or oceanfront locations. The heated freshwater swimming pool is the ideal spot to spend hours bathing under the palms or reading a book from the hotel library. Those with an active side will enjoy the tennis court and water sports on offer or simply perfecting your pool skills in the games room.
At the forefront of Coral Sands’ ethos is hospitality, with personable staff going above and beyond for their guests, who often return year after year.
We love the accommodating nature of the staff here, which when coupled with its remote location is like being welcomed into a family friend’s luxury island home.

Rooms
The room categories here range from standard rooms and beachfront cottages to private three-bed villas. Each is individually decorated, including seahorse-patterned bed throws in baby pink and coral blues, and dark oak furnishings accented by white shell and starfish shapes. The style is that of understated luxury, with custom-built cabinetry and polished dark wood floors beneath the whitewash walls and high ceilings. Air conditioning, Wi-Fi, king size beds and en suite bathrooms come as standard throughout.
Location
A true remote hideaway, Coral Sands is aptly named for its location on the pink-hued sands of Harbour Island’s eastern beach. Getting to the hotel is an adventure, with a flight to North Eleuthera, a land and sea transfer to Dunmore Town, followed by a golf cart to the hotel. The resort is worth the journey, however, as its secluded nature makes for a real island hideaway.
Food and drink
An à la carte breakfast is served in the open-sided Terrace restaurant, located in the main building and overlooking the lagoon pool. Its evening menu ranges from salads to pizzas, pasta, meats, seafood and sides. Lunch is served in the relaxed Beach Bar with panoramic views over the beach and ocean. Accompanying both restaurants is a wine and beer list, with signature cocktails that pack quite a punch, and a lounge bar provides an intimate environment for after-dinner drinks.
Facilities and activities
The staff at Coral Sands take particular pride in their attentive hospitality, ensuring guests are well looked after from the start. The facilities here are equally accommodating, with a gym, swimming pool and a flood lit tennis court. Golf buggies are available for hire to venture around the resort or into nearby Dunmore Town.
