Pousada Rio Mutum, the Pantanal

Pousada do Rio Mutum

The Pantanal, Brazil

The pousada consists of simple but comfortable apartments, a dining room, a swimming pool and assorted other communal buildings located on the banks of the Rio Mutum. Its proximity to the water makes for excellent wildlife watching opportunities and creates a peaceful setting.

Staying here is all about experiencing the fascinating wildlife of the Pantanal, whether you visit the lodge's numerous horses, watch otters playing in the river or spot the abundance of birds flying overhead in colorful flocks.

OUR OPINION:

Immersed within the northern Pantanal wetlands, the pousada's wild location, excellent guides and comfortable accommodation combine to make this one of our favorite places from which to explore one of the continent’s most vibrant natural regions. While it has started to accept a few more group bookings in recent years, the quality of excursions and guiding still makes for a fascinating stay.

They include air conditioning, fridges for storing bottles of water and comfortable beds equipped with mosquito nets. Each room comes with a TV with mainly Portuguese channels, but the sights and sounds of the Pantanal should provide all the evening entertainment you'll need.

All food is home-cooked, and most of the fish and meat is locally-sourced, so you can expect some delicious local delicacies such as piranha soup.
