Responsible Choice
Follow the dusty track out of town toward the ruins of an ancient fortress at Pukara de Quitor and just when you think there is nothing else to find, you will come across the Hotel Altiplanico. Fifteen minutes' walk from the hustle and bustle of San Pedro’s main street, Caracoles, lies a group of 16 low adobe houses created out of local wood, mud, straw and stone, which together form an authentic village true to the style of the Altiplano, or high plateau grounds.
The Altiplanico has real character and individuality, and each of the 16 rooms is in fact its own little rustic ‘house’, with private terrace and charmingly ethnic but well-equipped bedrooms and bathrooms offering cool airy space and simple comfort. The hotel considers that television and telephone (there is one line from reception) disrupt its atmosphere, but you will find a lovely outdoor swimming pool, internet access, laundry service, massage options, and a relaxed café/bar where breakfast is served. For dinner, you can choose whether to walk into the town or relax in the cozy restaurant on site.
