Dantica Cloud Forest Lodge enjoys a prime location in San Gerardo de Dota, one of Costa Rica's best regions for birdwatching. The nine bungalows are dotted throughout the property, all with stunning views to the cloudforest. Included in the bungalows are a Jacuzzi bath, a minibar, private terrace and portable heaters. The decor is modern and quirky (think Costa Rican Ikea) and the lodge's own small gallery features objects from all over Latin America.
There are a number of trails in the expansive private reserve; shared birdwatching, walking and horse riding tours can be arranged. The lodge serves good food, but if you're looking for something different, it can arrange for you to have dinner at a simple home-from-home restaurant just 300 m (985 ft) away, which is run by the friendly Miriam.
