I usually find it difficult to return to the same places while traveling, with one exception. To me, Ireland is my home away from home. My parents have an apartment in Galway, where I find myself visiting as often as I can. When I return, I always seem to experience something new.
Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to England, Scotland, and Ireland on a research trip. I was impressed by the stunning landscapes, incredible food, and vast history in each destination. I strolled through the bustling Borough Market on a rainy day in London, with a cup full of decadent chocolate covered strawberries. I explored the ghostly undergrounds of Edinburgh, listening to a local guide telling ghost stories. In Ireland, I held a six-week-old baby sheep in my arms on the coast of the Dingle Peninsula.
I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to help others experience a region that is very close to my heart. I cannot wait to share my passion and knowledge with you.
Q&A with Caroline
What’s your most vivid travel moment?
On my recent trip to Scotland, I had the pleasure of visiting Rothiemurchus Estate in the Scottish Highlands. My guide showed me around the estate by Land Rover, where I was able to see the vibrant landscape of snow-capped mountains, bright orange and red forests, and a crystal-clear lake, reflecting the autumn colors of the trees within it. I remember smelling the crisp, fresh air and feeling like it had been the first deep breath I’d taken in weeks. The highlight of the experience was the wildlife. My guide took me to see Highland coos (cows) and red deer that live on the estate. I was able to feed dozens of deer out of my hands with the sunset gleaming in the background.
Where would you love to travel next?
The place that holds the current number one spot on my list is Croatia. I had a trip planned before the pandemic with my best friend, but unfortunately, we had to cancel. The rocky coastline, crystal-clear water, and fresh seafood sounds like an absolute dream to me.
Your best piece of travel advice?
My best piece of travel advice is to ask friends for their ideas. Every time I travel to a new place, I reach out to people that I know who have traveled there before. Some of the best experiences that I’ve had on my travels have been from friends’ recommendations.
