Ideal for lovers of the great outdoors, Deplar Farm is located in a remote valley in North Iceland's Troll Peninsula, where unpolluted night skies in winter give you a good chance of seeing the northern lights. Formerly a sheep farm, it has been converted into a stylish luxury lodge with 13 individually named rooms and suites, all with views of the lake, river, or towering mountains. Each has elegant and welcoming Scandinavian decor as well as en suite bathrooms with walk-in steam showers and toiletries. The larger Gallery Suites have mezzanine-style lofts with additional day beds and hammocks.Â
The highlight of your stay here is having a wide range of included activities at your fingertips, which dedicated staff can help plan into each day. Changing seasonally, they might include snowmobiling and cross-country skiing in winter or hiking, horse riding and whale watching in summer. When not out and about, you can relax in the spa, which has an indoor/outdoor geothermal pool, hot tubs, sauna and steam rooms and two flotation tanks, as well as a yoga studio. Elsewhere, kick back in the media room, where you can play board games and video games, or challenge someone to a game of table tennis in the bar and lounge area.
The service, attention to detail and wide selection of activities provided by Deplar Farm can’t be beaten anywhere else in Iceland. We also love the property’s striking location among the remote hills and mountains of the Troll Peninsula.

All have minimalist but welcoming Scandinavian decor, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and bathrooms with walk-in steam showers and toiletries. Location
Set in the secluded Fljot Valley, surrounded by the towering mountains of the Troll Peninsula, Deplar Farm provides a plush base in the far north of Iceland, close to the Arctic Circle. The journey to the property usually takes about an hour and a quarter from Akureyri airport, although you should allow an extra 30 minutes in the winter months in case of possible road closures due to snow.Â
Food and drink
You’ll meet with the property’s chef on arrival, who’ll prepare and tailor menus according to your dietary preferences and tastes. Meals are served at the hotel’s communal dining table along with your fellow guests, though private dining is also available. You may also dine at the hotel’s secluded Lake House or traditional Icelandic farmhouse nearby, depending on your activity schedule.
