Wild landscapes set the scene at this characterful boutique hotel located on the waterfront in eastern Iceland’s coastal village of Fáskrúðsfjörður. Comprised of four renovated and restored historic buildings built for French fishermen who made this place home between 1898 and 1907, it’s an ideal base for hiking, walking, and enjoying the surrounding fjordland scenery. There’s 47 light-flooded rooms in varying sizes and layouts, all with soothing cream, blue and silver hues, wooden flooring, patterned wallpapers, large windows, and a mix of classic and contemporary decor. Modern amenities include flat-screen TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi, and en suite bathrooms with showers.
Set on a floating pier, the hotel’s restaurant, L’Abri, serves buffet style breakfasts and French-influenced dishes created with Icelandic ingredients for à la carte lunches and dinners. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Another highlight is the on-site French Museum, a small exhibition space with multimedia displays about the connection between the fishermen and eastern Iceland.
We love the waterfront location and relaxed atmosphere at this historic boutique hotel in the coastal village of Fáskrúðsfjörður. The sunsets over the fjord and surrounding mountains are hard to beat.
