Dromoland Castle, Ireland

Dromoland Castle

Limerick, Ireland

Majestic Dromoland Castle is an imposing 19th-century baronial stronghold that exudes charm and grandeur. The impressive building is matched by sumptuous decor with lavish fabrics, carved wooden fireplaces, glistening chandeliers, wood paneling and rich and regal tones found throughout the property.

Guest rooms are divided between the Queen Anne wing and the main building, and although styles and views differ, all are extremely spacious and well furnished. There are several dining options at Dromoland, from the award-winning fine dining menu at the intricately decorated Earl of Thomond restaurant to a more casual meal at the Fig Tree Restaurant, or even a freshly prepared picnic to be taken into the grounds which include woodland and an 18-hole parkland golf course.

OUR OPINION:

We were awed by the sight of Dromoland Castle as we approached and remained wonderfully impressed by the service, food and high quality rooms here.

Rooms

Rooms are divided between the Queen Anne wing, which overlooks an inner courtyard, and the main building whose views encompass the gardens and lake. All rooms are spacious and are furnished to the highest standards with complimentary Wi-Fi, an interactive TV and international plug sockets. Queen Anne rooms are more contemporary in style, while the deluxe rooms, staterooms and suites have classically elegant decor. All rooms have special touches such as dark wooden furniture, elaborate headboards or antique furnishings.

Location

Situated within its own extensive grounds just a 15-minute drive south of Ennis and half an hour northwest of Limerick, Dromoland has a peaceful, secluded location yet is within easy reach of the highlights of the region. This is a great place to base yourself to explore the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher.

Food and drink

The Earl of Thomond restaurant serves an award-winning six-course fine dining menu in the main dining room, which has tall windows, intricate chandeliers and oak paneling. A more casual menu is served in the warm and welcoming Fig Tree Restaurant in the Golf Club. For something different, Shannigan’s Gastro Bar is a traditional pub at the end of the estate's driveway.

Facilities and activities

Dromoland Castle has its own golf course and tranquil spa, which has a number of treatment rooms and an outdoor hydro-pool. It is also possible to engage in a number of different activities within the grounds. These include archery, falconry, walking and cycling, clay pigeon shooting or a ride in a pony and trap.
