The opulent 18th-century Grand Hotel Majestic già Baglioni is the oldest and arguably most well-known hotel in Bologna. Well located in the heart of the city, the hotel is a short walk from the Piazza Maggiore and Due Torri (the city’s iconic medieval towers) and boasts many dining and shopping options on its doorstep.
Entering the main lobby, you’re greeted by frescoed walls, a black-and-white-tiled floor, Murano-glass chandeliers and a sweeping red-carpeted staircase. Rooms continue in a lavish fashion, with sumptuous fabrics and antique furniture. You’ll also find a preserved portion of Roman road under the hotel.
The hotel’s fine-dining restaurant, I Carracci, is decorated with a number of frescoes from the Carracci school of Bolognese artists.
For us, Bologna’s most elegant hotel, we highly recommend the Grand Hotel Majestic già Baglioni if you’re looking for unashamed 18th-century opulence.
