Mitaka is a pleasant suburb of Tokyo, around 20 minutes by train on the Chuo Line from Shinjuku Station in central Tokyo. The town is home to the Ghibli Museum, an interactive exhibition containing all things related to the animated world created in the films of Studio Ghibli.
Studio Ghibli is Japan's premiere animation studio boasting internationally renowned movies such as My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away which currently holds the all-time box office record in Japan. Studio Ghibli is headed by Hayao Miyazaki, who is often referred to as the 'Walt Disney of Japan'.
Due to the popularity of the museum tickets must be purchased in advance of your visit and are allocated specific entry times — tickets go on sale on the 10th of each month for entrance the following month and sell out very quickly. We can arrange for these to be purchased for you in advance but due to the popularity please be prepared to be flexible on the time and date.
