Local house at Thay et Pya village, Pindaya

Visit to Thay et Pya village near Pindaya

The village of Thay et Pya, which translates as Flat Mango village, is located a 30-minute drive from the town of Pindaya in Shan State.

Thay et Pya is a charming, well-kept village and is home to Danu families — an ethnic group of the Shan people. Today is spent meeting the villagers and learning more about typical rural life.

You can visit the village school and monastery, where it's possible to receive a blessing by the Head Monk or learn more about Buddhist meditation. There is a hilltop stupa which affords good views of the village and surrounding countryside.

You'll also have the opportunity to spend time inside the villagers' homes, many of whom earn a living making commodities to sell at market such as brooms and cheroots. A delicious, home-cooked lunch shared with a local family will be prepared for you.
