Situated south of the Sesriem gate to Sossusvlei lies the private 21,000 hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve, the closest reserve to Sossusvlei itself.
Little Kulala is in a prime location on the western side of the reserve. It offers magnificent dune scenery to the west, rugged Namib mountainous escarpment to the north and east, with grassy plains and "fairy circles" filling the space in between. It is located on the dry Auab River bed with dead acacia trees standing as relics to their kind as the backdrop.
The camp comprises 11 thatched and glass-sided chalets or 'kulalas' (local Oshiwambo meaning 'to sleep') on elevated decks. Each air-conditioned unit has its own private bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower, minibar and veranda, with plunge pool, sun-loungers and shaded outdoor seating. An external staircase leading to the flat rooftop provides the ideal setting to spend the evening stargazing in your own private confines, or you can even arrange to bed down for the night up there. The main area has a stylish lounge, dining room, library, bar, curio shop and swimming pool all under thatch.
Activities are varied and numerous and include early morning guided game drives to the dunes, nature drives and walks on the private reserve, day trips into the Namib-Naukluft mountains and early morning ballooning flights.
