East London is probably the airport you will fly to or from to start or end your trip along the Wild Coast.
The town itself used to be a very prosperous port, although hard times have meant a change of direction toward tourism, attracting South Africans to its grand sweep of beach backed by steep sand dunes.
There is a very laidback vibe, thanks to the large numbers of surfers and beach-lovers drawn by the excellent combination of sand and surf on offer.
