Barceló Oviedo Cervantes

Oviedo, Spain

Set in the heart of Oviedo, Barceló Oviedo Cervantes is a convenient base for exploring the medieval city and the wider Asturian region.

Housed in a refurbished mansion dating to the early 20th century, the hotel retains its original redbrick frontage but has been extended with two imposing smoked-glass wings — a revamp that has secured several design plaudits.

This elegant blend of old and new continues inside. Light-filled and airy, rooms and suites are generously sized for such an enviable city locale, and those positioned behind the building’s façade come with large lounge areas and historic features like pillars and slanted ceilings.

All rooms have been finished in a neutral palette and furnished with design-led pieces and luxury touches like rain-effect hydromassage showers.

Dining here takes top billing and the hotel’s brunch draws crowds from far and wide. Casual but stylish, the decor throughout the dining spaces includes earthy tones like terracotta and ochre, while oversize plants bring the outdoors in.

You can feast on Indian-style tapas, tuck into modern Asturian fare, or sip a creative cocktail by the fire in the lobby bar. The feel here is luxury, the mood is casual, and the staff are friendly.

OUR OPINION:

We love this hotel’s laidback luxury. The rooms are stylish but also comfortable, the cocktails are divine, and the location is spot on. You’re just a stroll away from the city’s old town and historic attractions.

Rooms

Natural light spills into all the hotel’s spacious rooms and suites, which are divided between the old and new buildings. Sitting behind the property’s historic façade, the suites are especially roomy and come with quirks such as slanted ceilings, pillars, and low windows. They all feature large living areas and hot tubs.

The decor throughout is minimalist, combining natural textures, neutral shades like stone and sage, and mid-century-modern furniture. Bathrooms feature glass panels and are light-filled, some have bathtubs, and all come with rain-effect hydromassage showers.

Occupying a convenient position on the edge of Oviedo’s historic core, Barceló Oviedo Cervantes sits within walking distance of many of the city’s landmark sights.
