The coastal town of Seward is set on beautiful Resurrection Bay on the Kenai Peninsula and is named after the man who arranged for the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867.
This strategic spot is the southern terminus for the Alaska Railroad and is one of the state’s principal ports.
Glaciers and wildlife
Surrounded by abrupt snow-capped mountains, the town is the gateway to beautiful Kenai Fjords National Park and home to the vast Harding Icefield and a number of tidewater glaciers. The park is one of Alaska’s jewels, where abundant wildlife and sensational glacier scenery competes with whales, sea otters and seabirds.
