Once owned by a Massachusetts State Senator, the infamous Red Lion Inn is a mainstay of the Berkshires, enticing visitors through its infamous front porch, where cocktail-drinkers can watch the world go by in summer, and burrow under a blanket in winter.
This classic inn is steeped in history, playing host to many a tale over the years. Despite undergoing numerous renovations, it has retained its character and family feel through its friendly service and with the help of its only permanent resident, Simon the cat. Balancing its historic roots with contemporary elegance, rooms are filled with antiques and artwork alongside modern amenities to ensure a comfortable and intriguing stay.
While it isn't the most luxurious accommodation in the Berkshires, The Red Lion Inn is a quaint property set in a picturesque village, and is packed full of character and charm.

Rooms
There are a variety of individually and tastefully decorated rooms in the main inn, coming in many different shapes and sizes. They offer a king sized bed, queen sized bed, two queen sized beds, two double beds or two single beds, making them suitable for most guests. The entry-level B&B rooms share a bathroom down the hallway but have their own sinks, with bathrobes provided. Deluxe rooms have their own private bathroom, while the spacious Superior rooms have fireplaces and outdoor access in some cases, as well as soaking tubs for relaxing in. There are also Suites for those seeking further luxury, offering a separate sitting room with sofa bed.
All rooms have a vintage feel, with traditional décor, well-appointed bathrooms and modern day amenities such as Wi-Fi, cable TV and air conditioning. Rooms in the main building are accessed by the unique birdcage lift, and the hotel also has a variety of guesthouses located a short walk away, offering accommodation for larger groups.
Location
The gleaming white façade of The Red Lion sits at the end of Main Street, making it conveniently located for wandering the town of Stockbridge and for exploring further around the Berkshires. Besides the outstanding restaurant on site, many restaurants and cafés are within walking distance of the inn, and the beautiful walks of Ice Glen are mere moments away.
Food and drink
The restaurant at the inn is an elegant affair, complete with sparkling chandeliers and antique china. It serves delicious fine dining meals throughout the day, six days a week. The inn also has a pub, The Lion’s Den, with live entertainment every night from local performers. Guests are also able to dine at the more informal Widow Bingham’s Tavern, which offers good food washed down with locally brewed beer.
Families
The Suites have a sofa bed, which makes them a good option for families, while the separate guesthouses are ideal for larger families.
Facilities and activities
The inn offers a fully-equipped gym, a heated year-round outdoor pool with hot tub and full changing facilities, and the Seven Salon and Spa — all of which are found on site. Free parking is available, and guests can make use of the cozy reading room and private library.
