This resplendent antebellum property began life in 1818 as a grand estate mansion and outbuildings, home to wealthy landowners, field hands, house staff and slaves. Following years of neglect after the American Civil War and Great Depression, Monmouth was purchased and restored to its former glory in the 1980s and is today considered one of Mississippi’s finest hotels.
The property sits in lovingly restored and well-tended gardens, where self-guided paths allow you to explore the beauty and history of the plantation. The spacious guest rooms are either in the main house or one of the seven outbuildings, with their period furnishings, antiques and elegant decor creating a feeling of history and grandeur.
An Audley favorite, Monmouth Historic Inn provides an authentic and traditional Southern experience. A stay here really does tick all the boxes for those looking to explore the history, culture and food of the South.

Rooms
There are several options when it comes to accommodation at Monmouth. For the most authentic experience, we suggest you stay in one of the rooms in the main house, which offer more character and original features. Alternatively, there are seven outbuildings spread throughout the grounds housing further spacious rooms and suites.
All rooms are generously sized and beautifully furnished, boasting their own personality and charm. Antiques and fine reproduction furnishings accentuate each room, along with views over the gardens and grounds. Amenities include cable flat-screen TVs, hair dryers and free Wi-Fi access.
Location
Located in the residential area of this historic town, and only a five-minute drive from the downtown area and Mississippi riverfront, you can really make the most of the quieter setting, perhaps taking a stroll along the walking trail in the gardens.
Food and drink
A full Southern breakfast is included during your stay here, served in the Garden Room or in the covered patio area if you prefer alfresco dining. The Quitman Lounge in the main house offers a more casual dining experience, where cocktails and hors d’oeuvre are available between 5.30pm and 7pm. Restaurant 1818 offers a classic antebellum dining experience that you're unlikely to find elsewhere — smart casual dress is recommended for dining here, and the gourmet Southern cuisine is highly recommended. Be sure to make reservations, as tables here book up quickly.
Facilities and activities
The property offers on site fishing with equipment provided, a croquet court and access to an off-site fitness center. Complimentary tours of the house are also available to all guests at 10am and 2pm each day. A laundry service and an in-room massage service is available.Â
