Should I buy travel insurance?

Yes. We’ve been running trips for more than 25 years and, based on our experience, can confidently say you should always buy travel insurance to protect you and your trip.

Quality travel insurance has proved invaluable for our clients when unexpected events have affected their trip. Based on our experience, we recommend Redpoint’s Cavalry Travel Protection, comprehensive insurance that gives you the utmost peace of mind when you travel.

Our list of scenarios below offers some examples of how Redpoint’s travel protection can cover your trip. You’ll find full coverage details on Redpoint’s website. You can also reach out to your specialist if you have any questions.

What kinds of scenarios will Redpoint's Cavalry Travel Protection cover?

  • Trip cancellation
For example, if your child suddenly becomes ill and you can’t depart on your trip, having trip cancellation coverage means you’re eligible to cancel your trip due to sickness and be reimbursed for trip expenses that would otherwise be non-refundable.
Maximum coverage per person: up to 100% of trip cost (a doctor must impose restrictions at the time of loss preventing you from going on the covered trip.)

  • Trip delay
If your common carrier is delayed by three hours or more due to inclement weather, you’re eligible to receive reimbursement for additional accommodations and meals you require while you wait for your flight.
Maximum coverage per person: (US) $1,000; $200 maximum per person per day (three-hour minimum delay).

  • Missed connection
If your flight connection is delayed by three hours or more due to inclement weather or a common carrier delay, you’re eligible to receive reimbursement for any additional transportation you’d need to continue your trip, as well as any unused, non-refundable trip expenses.
Maximum coverage per person: (US) $1,000 (three-hour minimum delay).

  • Baggage and personal effects
Should your bags become lost, stolen or damaged through no fault of your own during your trip, you’re eligible for reimbursement for the affected personal articles and expenses.
Maximum coverage per person: (US) $2,500.

  • Luggage delay
If your luggage is delayed for 12 hours or more, you’re eligible for reimbursement for the expense of replacing necessary personal effects. If you’re traveling with sporting equipment that’s delayed, you’re eligible for reimbursement for the rental of that equipment.
Baggage and personal effects maximum coverage per person: (US) $600 (12-hour minimum delay).

  • Emergency medical and dental expenses
For example, if, during your trip, you unexpectedly have chest pains, break a bone or suffer from any other medical emergency that’s listed under your Redpoint policy, this coverage will help you receive quality medical care in your destination.
Medical expense coverage through Redpoint is a reimbursement process. This means you pay for the medical expenses and then file a claim for reimbursement when you return home.
Maximum coverage per person: (US) $100,000 ($750 sub-limit for dental expenses).

  • Emergency medical evacuation
If something happens on your trip that requires urgent medical attention, this coverage will help you receive care as quickly as possible and be safely returned home for medical care if necessary.
Maximum coverage per person: (US) $1,000,000.

Does travel insurance cover trip interruptions caused by Covid-19?

Yes. Redpoint’s Cavalry Travel Protection regards Covid-19 as any other unforeseen sickness. Trip interruption and medical expense benefits may be covered if you become ill with Covid-19 while on a covered trip and you have a confirmed diagnosis, including proof of illness, from a doctor.

The vast majority of travel insurance providers don't cover pandemics or epidemics as eligible reasons for cancellation or interruption. At the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, the situation was labelled as a ‘known event’, which meant it became an ‘excluded’ reason for cancellation or interruption coverage.

Covid-19 has caused many travel insurance providers to reconsider their ‘Cancel for Any Reason’ ('CFAR') benefit. However, Redpoint’s Cavalry Travel Protection still offers the Cancel for Any Reason benefit. If you’d like to maximize your coverage for cancellation, we’d recommend upgrading your policy with this benefit as it allows you to cancel for any reason not excluded and be eligible to receive a 75% refund of the prepaid, forfeited, non-refundable payments or deposits for the covered trip arrangements. Please review the Cavalry policy for details on Cancel for Any Reason conditions on their website.
